Laser scanning

Laser scanning: proven, accurate and fast

A measurement by means of laser scanning corresponds to the current state of the art and is of great value for the project, especially when planning existing plants. The technology has been practically proven and is extremely accurate and fast to use. The laser scan records almost 100% of the as-built condition of the plant in the recording area. The measurement accuracy of the scanners we use is +/- 1 mm at 50 m. In addition to the 3D point cloud as a basis for further CAD planning, you also receive a 360° HD photo model. In these models you can measure distances, among other things.

Advantage Laser scanning + 3D planning

The use of laser scanning in conjunction with 3D planning has been proven to save time and costs while reducing the error rate. The laser scan enables the on-site situation in the office to be checked at any time. "Forgotten elements" are a thing of the past. This saves time and money. We simulate various planning variants directly in the CAD environment without the need for new measurements. The higher planning accuracy enables, among other things, optimised prefabrication (e.g. without fitting lengths) and fewer assembly seams on site.

Advantages over manual measurement:
  • very high measuring accuracy
  • high degree of completeness (no "forgotten elements")
  • Inspection of stock measurements in the office
  • Collision check of laser scan model and planned 3D model

Study confirms cost and time savings

Depending on the size of the project, complexity, size and density of the plant to be measured, the use of laser scanning for surveying can result in a high savings potential. The study "Determination of the added value of 3D laser scanning technology for plant engineering" (09/2016) by the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF shows that the more complex the planning project, the greater the potential for savings compared to conventional manual measurement. According to the study, time and cost advantages in the range of 15 % to 40 % can be achieved, in individual cases even 50 % to 70 %.
